Major Trends This Season
If you've ever met me you know I like to talk- alot. Most times I talk until someones politely starts staring at me with the same bewildering and uninterested eyes they have when they watch paint dry. One can then imagine my surprise when I was asked to speak at "The Unique Styling Experience and Designers Exhibition". I only had 5 minutes but anyone who's ever spoken to an Indian Aunti at a wedding knows that so. very. much. can be said in 5 whole minutes.
With only 5 minutes and a tendency to race through speeches I keep it simple, speaking about 5 trends that I believe are at it's peak this season (and this year). Seeing the response from my audience was so positive I thought you would enjoy my analysis aswell. Differing from the norm of fashion updates I'm going to keep it simple and brief but as comprehensive as needs be.

1. Stripes
Stripes are the equivalent of what a plain white T-shirt used to be back in the day. We've been seeing this trend on the runwya for 3 seasons now and it doesn't look like it'[s going anywhere anytime soon.
Stripes are such a DO rn and there are so many minor trends that were considered such fashion DON'TS in the past. Prime example - Full on stripes on stripes. While this is the height on street style trends right now head to toe explosive colored stripped might be too for some people (as my mother always says if your a loud person your clothes shouldn't be loud either otherwise you're just making noise). Cue monochrome stripes. Subtle but trendy.
2. SNEAKERS AND ATHLESUIRE.Too many people don't know what athlesiure is, too many people who work at Addidas but that's far besides the point. Athlesiure is "casual, comfortable clothing designed to be suitable both for exercise and everyday wear". It's the middle ground between gymwear and trendy, chic casual wear.
So IN rn and so easy to do. Track suit pants, chill T-shirt and shoes. |
Sneakers VS heels. The great thing about athlesuire is that it's a street style trend so really, anything goes! Heels are obviously the more fashionable choice but with a ever increasing demand for comfortably and general life pace that's only seeming to become exponentially faster as technology evolves, the rise of the sneaker was surely inevitable. Sneakers are not only limited to athlesiure, sneakers have finally escaped that sense of informality and casualness that was only ok during high school. Pairing sneakers with more formal pieces is only the height of trend.
Don't forget the Mule! We've all seen the classic Gucci ones on the gram but a Mule is basically a shoes that doesn't have a back. Returning to practicality the flat mule is the buzz rn. I'm not sure that this trend will see the likes of Spring 2018 and if it does I doubt it will be around for Fall17'.

3.Barely Hanging in There.
This trend cognitively started with Rihanna who drapped herself in that elegent sea of yellow at 2015 Met. Yet again proving that yellow is truly a color best suited for black skin.
It took on in 2015 but it spread like wildfire in 2016 and 2017 is seeing the overpopularization of this trend. Im very surte this trend won't make it through 2017, I hope it doesn't. Not that I don't love the style it's just been done to death. Like the newest pop song that the radio plays so often that they kill it and you cant bear to listen to it because its just been so overplayed. Never the less the trend is way in rn.
4. Tulle Shirts.
Tulle Shirts. Tulle garment with Valentino in 2015 and this season they've made it big as a shirt. Cue on trend editorial we shoot in -1 degree weather. Distilling my point cue a shot from Trees Deep, June 17's Editorial. Click here to view it.
5. Big Sleeves.
My absolute favorite trend right now is big and interesting sleeves in general. Work shirts are ever more exciting with bigger sleeves.
This trend is so easy to wear. Pair it with a simple pair of jeans, a good belt and a flat pair of mules.
