Many years ago- 3, I forced my brother to listen to one of the greatest records of all time. The Slim Shady EP. At the time I thought I was giving him a change from the casual Sinatra and John Legend that my parents would play on repeat as if there were no other artists in existance. Little did I know that I was the rabbit and he Alice and we were about to tumble down the rabbit hole. So engrossed by the witty lyricism and vulgarties that Shady was rhymically delivering to us at a pace and style we were ready to grasp, we were captured. Hip-Hop became a staple between the two of us. While I opted for more modernist Jazz influenced Hip-Hop my brother delve into the depths of hip-hop and only graes his soul with the melodies of oldies. Classics like Wu-Tang, Pac, Biggie, Jay Z and every other 80's and 90's rap star that would and wouldn't be played on VH1. Speaking about modern Hip-Hop you'd think he was born Gen Y. "What is this Gucci Gucci?" "Where is the lyrical construction" "But what is he saying" "This is nonsense". While I agree, I'm inclined to acknowledge the nessecity to stay modern- mostly for groove purposes but I strongly belive there is no such
