Despite having done this shoot an entire year ago, I couldn't not post it just because of the incoherent time lapse between shoot and post. The release of it is actually quite timely. Compared to the insanity of last year, running between classes, shoots, clients helplessly in need of someone to tell them what to wear, in what colour and why and the seasely effort of trying to keep up with current affairs and not become outraged at lack of politicians understanding the basis of feminism and its necessary place in our modern society.
Cue dramatic poses fit for editorials but never selfies with Grandma.
Amid years and years of attempting to finesse the typical New Years resolutions- Gym more, good grades, quit smoking... This year I've resolved to less talking more doing. A resolution in itself, I know but instead of declaring something and then trying to carry it out I'm going to slowly do something, make a habit of it and then declare it.
The complexity in this is like those relationships where you're together but not together. You belong to someone and they to you but there isn't a title on you relationship. I never understood this concept but it's dawning on me that many things, like gender, right and wrong, sociopathy and relationships are more grey scale than black and white.
The freedom in not having something but not caging yourself to the comitment of it is probably caused by some underlying commitment issue that might fade away if you cross your fingers, hop on one leg and blink 32 times in Fibonacci sequels.
For the most part of the year this mellow method of getting things done has been working- for the most part. Time reveals all and soon we'll see if this fragile balance of consistent non-commit will be the end or the rise of me, us and everyone else floating in this akwquard not-so-friendzone, possibly productive space probably more conflicting than the space Sandra Bullock floated around in, in that obscenely ambitious movie Gravity.
Satoricially speaking the story of this edit is more practical than romantic. Directed by yours truly and Bush Mahlatini staring the emaculate Jamacan-American New Yorker and the flawless radiance of Celine and her unwavering talent to always be ready for every off-set picture you could ever try and take, this scene speaks of the love and hate sensuality of two people surrounded by nothing but a sublime desert of empty ridicule and nothing but themselves to meander and tantalise.
