BEAUTY IN THE BLUES
JULY 2016 EDITORIAL 1
If you haven't established by now it seems I've taken a liking to labeling my editorials in what can only be described as super hispter and classically cheesy titles that sort of gives premise to me writing some type of obscurely poetic description of something that's generally irrelevant to the content of the picture but is excused because really what can one argue against?
In the spirit of cheesy poetic hipsterness I present Beauty In The Blues. Blue is associated with calmness and relaxation but also sadness and depression, hence the saying "I've got the blues" and blues Jazz which is characteristically sad. Reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast the idea is that there is beauty in sadness. The story and the movie are both quite sad and visually "blue". Except for the ending the story line is pretty tragic but with out the tragedy there would be no story, there would be movie, without tragedy there would be no Sam Smith! Can you image if Adele didn't get her heart broken, she wouldn't of written all of the songs that have basically become the breakup anthem for men and women alike. |
If it wasn't for soul crushing sadness we wouldn't have soul nurturing art. It's really quite a viscous cycle. This, among many other viscous thought cycles have been haunting me in the moments when I'm in bed with the lights off, ready to be lulled to sleep by the biting darkness. Viscous things like this keep me up at night and whilst this seems like a small and redundant topic that only 'basic bitches' would be contemplating you'd be surprised how many people refuse to think of anything other than if their phone is charged and what they're going to wear tomorrow.
I certainly went off topic but that's the point of this space. It's completely mine and I can do with it what ever my sleep deprived self wants to. And perhaps it's better for you to hear about the wave of thoughts that haunt me rather than the senseless sparks of sadness that stem from lust, love and anger. Those won't make you feel better. |
"I heard once that they would rather hear about memories than enemies Rather hear what was or what will be than what is Rather hear how you got it over how much it costs you, Rather hear about finding yourself and How you lost you Rather you make this an open letter about family and struggle and it taking forever About hearts that you’ve broken and ties that you’ve severed No doubt in my mind that will make them feel better"-Drake "I heard once that they would rather hear about memories than enemies Rather hear what was or what will be than what is Rather hear how you got it over how much it costs you Rather hear about finding yourself and How you lost you Rather you make this an open letter about family and struggle and it taking forever About hearts that you’ve broken and ties that you’ve severed No doubt in my mind that will make them feel better" "I heard once that they would rather hear about memories than enemies Rather hear what was or what will be than what is Rather hear how you got it over how much it costs you Rather hear about finding yourself and How you lost you Rather you make this an open letter about family and struggle and it taking forever About hearts that you’ve broken and ties that you’ve severed No doubt in my mind that will make them feel better" "I heard once that they would rather hear about memories than enemies Rather hear what was or what will be than what is Rather hear how you got it over how much it costs you Rather hear about finding yourself and How you lost you Rather you make this an open letter about family and struggle and it taking forever About hearts that you’ve broken and ties that you’ve severed No doubt in my mind that will make them feel better" "I heard once that they would rather hear about memories than enemies Rather hear what was or what will be than what is Rather hear how you got it over how much it costs you Rather hear about finding yourself and How you lost you Rather you make this an open letter about family and struggle and it taking forever About hearts that you’ve broken and ties that you’ve severed No doubt in my mind that will make them feel better" |
