I truly believe the art of dressing lies in pieces in context.A short time ago Skip created the #SkipCareChallenge and while I usually refrain from internet challenges and competitions, out a of askepticism enforced by my oh-so-indian parents who've never believed in entering any competions on the grounds of "If I wanted what they were giving away, I would have bought it already" but this was different. Skip Challenged any blogger or grammer to wear 1 garment 3 times in one week in a different way. The prize is worth the effort but I accepted the challenge for reasons other than my staunch stance on concious fashion and enviromental considerations. Earlier in the year I touched on the art of dressing while covering MBFW, you can find that article here. Sometimes it's

about the piece itself but such clothing is reserved for special occasions, everyday fashion is about putting pieces together in context. To me that's all fashion is, context. How well does piece A go with piece B and does shoe A complete piece B. . . As an industry and as an art fashion is about breaking boundaries and thinking, living and breathing outside the box. There is a box and that box is safe and predictable (that box is toyshop and cotton on dressing a mannequin and you wearing that exact outfit. . .) staying in the box breathes no excitement into the art. When you step outside the box you realise there is much more space to play with. For fashion week I wore 2 Pairs of pants- at the same time, Day 3 I wore a dress, a skirt and a pair of pants all at once and Day1 I wore

wore TWO white collared shirts and my mother's silk bathrobe all in one go. You can find these looks here. I'm a firm believer that simplicity is key and The Mauve Man is about subtle fashions and they're place in graceful dressing. As a fashion person I've evolved a lot, after high school I detested the idea of a uniform but many times a year I suffer from decision fatigue and I found solace in dressing in simple pieces that creates look that don't take much of a mind to put together. I save my mental strength for looks that I aim to amaze myself with. The Skip challenge was the perfect challenge and gave me a reason to play around with all the clothes in my closet- not that I needed a reason but it was refreshing to actually have one. The difference between dressing well and

dressing fashionably is simply the risk factor. I don't want to lecture you on risk and how fortune favours the brave -which it does but that's not what you came here for. Risk is to fashion what salt and spice is to popcorn. Pop corn is good as it is but salt just adds that extra spice.
BREAKING DOWN THE LOOK
A dress from The Fix. Simple, Farmgirl but also Braam but also you can visit your boyfriend's parents in it. It's a wrap dress and its got some detail that I usually avoid in clothing because I find it easier to mix simple garments and layer them or use them as other pieces than garment with patterns or more complex features. But fortune favours the brave and I decided to give complexities a shot.

DAY 1: The Key Outside Simplicity
|
DAY 2: The Glamour I wanted something casual but still Jhb appropriate. If you've never been to Jhb or Sandton specifically- know that its basically a dress how you'd like to be treated environment. Dress like a child- you'll be treated like one. That's actually the mantra of my life and while it may seem presumtionously fake- which it is, I feel like that's the way the world works. You can recognise the game and play by your own rules, or fight it and hope that it won't effect the happenings of your life. The Pants are soon to come to the KADA Shop! |
DAY 3: The Corporate Moment
Taking the farm girl flower dress out of the casual space was enjoyable thought provoking. I needed something more corporate and meeting appropriate so I decided to use the dress as a skirt. The irony that I've avoided tied dressed, shirts and skirts for I thought they were more restricting than untied clothing. Turning the dress into skirt felt like such as easy option I felt mindless that I never thought of it before!
